November 11, Kathmandu. Samba, a top scorer for Nepal, has made big headlines. She holds records for being the first Nepali player to play in Europe and is known for her goals in foreign leagues. Her recent performance has kept Nepal on top in women’s football. When Savitra scores, her team feels more confident.
Even though Nepal has won some matches without her scoring, they have lost most games when she hasn’t played well.
Nepal’s women’s football team captain, Savitra Bhandari, also known as Samba, has once again made a big impact in international matches.
Her performance helped Nepal stay undefeated in games against India.
Nepal beat India 2-1 in a friendly match on Monday, thanks to two goals from Savitra. This victory added to Nepal’s unbeaten record against India, which now stands at six years.
India was once the strongest team in South Asia, but recent games have shown that Bangladesh and Nepal are challenging that dominance.

In the last six years, Nepal defeated India twice in the SAFF Women’s Championship.
They drew with India twice in friendly matches in Chennai, India, in February 2023. The first game ended 2-2, and the second ended 0-0.
Nepal kept its unbeaten run against India by winning 2-1 in a recent friendly match.
This is the second time Nepal has beaten India on Indian soil. The first time was in February 2019, when Nepal won 2-1 in the Hero Women’s Gold Cup.
Savitra called the victory against India very important.
She said defeating India on its home ground was a challenge, and this win was special. She also mentioned the pain of losing the Asian Cup and the determination to reach higher.
Samba is India’s main opponent for Nepal, and Savitra is the key player in those matches.

Out of the four times Nepal has beaten India, Savitra has been involved in three of them.
She scored two goals in two of those wins and equalized in the third, leading to a penalty shootout.
In one win, Rashmi Kumari Ghisingh scored the only goal.
In a 2-2 draw, Savitra scored both of Nepal’s goals.
Out of the 14 goals Nepal has scored against India, nine were scored by Savitra.

India is also careful about Savitra when they play against Nepal.
